A promotional announcement for the Cooking Channel shows off four students from Food and Finance High School in Manhattan who will be coming to Monroe in the fall. The students are seen preparing food, cooking, smiling, and sharing food in an uplifting short video that promotes the Cooking Channel.
“It’s great to see our incoming freshman in this context,” said the Tanya Hodges, the Monroe Culinary Program’s Director of Operations. “They get a great start at Food and Finance and when they come to Monroe they’re well-prepared for the rigorous professional training they get here on their way to rewarding careers.”
In fact all four of these students will enter Monroe with strong credentials. Yocary Luna was the winner of the America’s Best HS Chef (ABHSC) competition that was held in the Monroe Culinary Arts Center this spring. Nashali Rivera finished second in the competition and Cheyenne Walcott participated in the ABHSC event and was awarded academic scholarship. The fourth student, Ashley Medrano, won C-CAP scholarships that will help support her academic career at Monroe.
“A number of students from Food and Finance HS come to Monroe,” said Ms. Hodges, “because it’s a good match. Their students are serious about pursuing careers in culinary and, of course, with our state of the art kitchens, accomplished chef/faculty, and practical, hands-on, real-world training curriculums, it’s easy to see how their goals can be realized.” |
