Monroe Culinary takes the cake in Jersey City!!

On Saturday, December 11, 2010, twenty members of Monroe’s culinary program competed in the Memorial Celebration for Chef James Paul 'Jimbo' Crowley at Hudson County Community College Culinary Arts Institute in Jersey City. This time, the JV team competed for the first time in an ACF sanctioned competition. All of the members of the JV team are in their first semester in the Culinary Arts and Pastry program and will be entering the Culinary Honors program next semester.

In the SK1 hot food competition the following awards were given:

Gaby Grande - Gold (also won monetary prize for highest point totals)

Tihelia James - Gold (also won monetary prize for highest point totals)

Tom Dippold - Silver

Dwight Duvoll - Silver

Samantha Gonzalez - Silver

Note: Gaby Grande was America's Best High School Chef in 2010 and Jessica Johnson was America's Best High School Pastry Chef in 2010.

In the SP1 warm dessert competition the following awards were given:

Jessica Johnson - Gold

Stephanie Cardenas - Silver

Also, Chef Eric Pellizzari, Jesus Alvarez (Monroe Culinary's Varsity team captain), and 2010 graduate James Daversa competed in the professional hot food competition. Chef Pellizzari took home a silver medal, Jesus won a professional gold, and James earned a bronze medal. In addition, they were awarded monetary prizes from Nestle, one of the competition sponsors.
