Former Monroe College Mustang basketball star Michael Nurse has signed a pro contract to play for the Thames Valley Tigers in the British Basketball League (B.B.L.). Nurse was the high scorer on the 1997-98 Mustang team that went to the NJCAA NationalChampionship game. In his senior college career he is best known for helping to lead the Iowa State Cyclones to a Big 12 Conference championship and a school best 31-4 record, as well as an appearance in the NCAA semi finals.
“I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds,” said Nurse from his home in Teaneck., NJ. “It will be an adjustment to play overseas for sure, but if I play like I know I can, everything will turn out all right.” Nurse joins former Mustang John McCord, who were both All-Americans at Monroe, in the B.B.L. McCord’s Chester Jets were league champions last year. Monroe College fields teams in four sports: men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer, and women's volleyball. Softball will be introduced in spring, 2003.
The Monroe Mustangs are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
