Mustangs Complete Strong Regular Seasons

Mustang freshmen Ketshiga Fearon and Willie Youtchou finished the regular season among the nation’s leaders.

The Monroe Mustangs men's and women's basketball teams finished the regular season primed and ready for the playoffs. Both teams have received national attention and boast of players who have been among the NJCAA's best. With a 25-2 record, the Monroe men were ranked 17th in the final NJCAA, Division I poll of the season. They will begin their post-season with the Region XV championship game against Westchester Community College at WCC in Valhalla, NY on Saturday, March 1 beginning at 2pm. The winner will represent the Region in the District 3 Tournament in Aiken, South Carolina on March 8-9. Monroe is 2-0 against WCC in the regular season.

At 18-9, the Lady Mustangs were listed at just below the nation's top ten in the category of "other teams receiving votes". On Tuesday, February 25, they began their playoff run with a 68-39 win against Sullivan CC and are scheduled to play in the Region XV semi-finals against Dutchess CC at Kingsborough CC on Saturday, March 1 at 3pm. The winner of that game will compete in the Region Championship game at noon the next day, also at Kingsborough CC. Monroe was 0-1 against Dutchess in the regular season.

These Monroe Mustangs finished among the nation's leaders:Kingsley Edwards #17 with 48.7% 3p shooting in NJCAA, Division IWillie Youtchou #22 with 47.7% 3p shooting in NJCAA, Division IKevin Bell #13 with 7.3 apg in NJCAA, Division IKevin Bell #12 with 3.5 spg in NJCAA, Division IKetshiga Fearon #19 with 15.6 ppg in NJCAA, Division IIIDanielle Hankerson #15 with 11.2 rpg in NJCAA, Division IIIDeAnna Chestnut # 4 with 6.6 apg in NJCAA, Division IIIDeAnna Chestnut # 3 with 4.6 spg in NJCAA, Division III Three Lady Mustangs were named to the All-Region 2nd team all-star team, Ketshiga Fearon, DeAnna Chestnut, and Cherita Gray.
