This has been the greatest season in Monroe College women’s volleyball history. Head coach Tenesha Seymour has the Lady Mustangs on a roll. They enter the post-season with an 18-3 record, 15-3 in the region, including victories in their last seven matches. The Region XV women’s volleyball tournament begins Saturday morning, October 30 at 11am at Dutchess Community College, Poughkeepsie, NY. The Lady Mustangs are ranked as the #2 seed in the tournament and are slated to play (#3) Westchester Community College, (#7) Borough or Manhattan Community College, and (#6) Orange Community College. "We feel like we’ve been underestimated the whole season," Coach Seymour reflected, as she prepared her team for the playoffs. "I suppose it’s understandable since we haven’t been this talented before. But, we’re determined to make a stand this weekend and go all the way!" The Lady Mustangs have been led by German freshman setter Daniella Hartwich, who is 18th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) with 6.6 assists/game. Sophomore captain Genesia Joseph is 11th in the NJCAA with 1.4 aces/game. Freshman Sara Altimarano is 16th in the nation with .945 assists/game and is listed at 25th with 2.9 blocks/game. Altimarano and Hartwich were named to the Region XV second All-star team and freshman Lakeisha Mistrey received honorable mention. The Region XV women’s volleyball tournament contains eight teams. The four teams with the best performance on Saturday compete in the championship matches on Sunday at 11am. Monroe College fields teams in six sports: men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer, women's volleyball, baseball, and softball. The Monroe Mustangs are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
