Monroe Athlets Excel In The Classroom!

The Monroe College Lady Mustangs basketball team, who finished as national finalists, have received national recognition for their academic achievements. The NJCAA has named Monroe as an Academic All-American Team because of their cumulative team grade-point average of 3.19.

Also, four Monroe College athletes were recognized as Academic All-Americans by the NJCAA. Men’s basketball players Nir Cohen (3.65) and Jamal Largie (3.65) were honored, as were women’s basketball players Monique Jenkins (3.73) and Jennifer Griffin (3.60).

"This is like winning a national championship," beamed Athletic Director Bert Shillingford. "Clearly, our coaches understand the real meaning of collegiate athletics by emphasizing academics. But the athletes themselves deserve all the credit in the world for achieving on the court and in the classroom."

On the court this past season, the Lady Mustangs were 32-2, won their second consecutive Region XV championship, and finished as national finalists. The Mustangs were 25-8, won their third consecutive Region XV championship, and finished as District III finalists.
