Monroe College Accounting students will be providing gratis accounting services for the Morris H.S. Transition Committee and the new Morris H.S. Alumni Association. The Transition Committee has been established to preserve the considerable Morris H.S. legacy as the school undergoes its restructuring. Part of that effort will include the establishment of an Alumni Association for the hundred year-old high school. "We’re going to custom-design an accounting program just for Morris H.S.," said Monroe College Accounting Chairman Jacob Lamar. "Some of our best students, those with 3.85 GPA’s or higher, will be committing significant resources to help Morris launch its Alumni Association with the right fiscal underpinnings." The Morris H.S. Transitional Committee is comprised of more than 30 community leaders, school officials, faculty, alumni, and students who meet monthly to facilitate the school’s transformation from a large comprehensive high school to five smaller high schools located in the Morris building. "Monroe’s accounting support, headed up by Professor Lamar, is absolutely vital to making this an effective process," said Morris H.S. Principal Claralee Irobunda. "It’s this sort of commitment that tells us we’ll achieve the goal of establishing a Morris H.S. Alumni Association." "It’s part of the Monroe College mission," echoed Professor Lamar, "to do whatever we can to support education in the community and preserve the history of the Bronx." Morris H.S. boasts of an illustrious alumni, including Colin Powell, Gabe Pressman, Helen Marshall, and David Lerner.
