After a school-best 32-2 season, the 2004-05 Monroe College Lady Mustangs finished their stellar season as NJCAA, Division III Women’s National Basketball Finalists. Though they were defeated 64-60 in the championship game by Anoka-Ramsey of Minnesota, this was an immensely successful season for Monroe. "These were some of the best players I’ve ever been associated with," said head coach Seth Goodman. "Right until the last second of the championship game, they dedicated everything they had, on and off the court, to winning." The Lady Mustangs had reached the finals of the NJCAA National Tournament with an 81-73 victory over Montgomery Rockville in the quarter-finals, and a thrilling game-to-remember 82-74 overtime semifinal win over Joliet Community College. Monroe placed three players on the All-tournament team: Fantasia Goodwin, Telisha Moultre, and Jelila Adbul-Bassit. In the three games, Goodwin rang up 84 points and finished third in the All-time tournament scoring records and she pulled down 67 rebounds, which placed her second in the national tourney’s all-time record book. Earlier in the season, Monroe had qualified for the national tournament by winning their second consecutive Region XV Championship. |
