National Champion SIFE Team To Be Featured On Kellogg's Corn Flakes Box! (9/9/2005)

Monroe College President Stephen Jerome, SIFE President Tishma Donastorg, and outgoing SIFE President Cecil Wright stand with Kellogg’s Tony-the Tiger to present the new SIFE corn flakes box.

Beginning at the end of September, along with your breakfast each morning the friendly faces you will see on the Kellogg’s Corn Flakes box will be those of the National Champion Monroe College SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) team! Honored for using their education to develop their communities, the Monroe SIFE team won the national championship in May, 2005 by competing with more than 150 colleges throughout the United States.

"Kellogg’s calls its Corn Flakes, ‘The Original and Best’," said Associate Academic Dean Carol Genese, "and so it’s only appropriate that these one-of-a-kind students who have achieved so much would be featured. Their commitment to communities and standards of excellence are great inspiration for anyone as they start their morning!"

Kellogg’s will be distributing the cereal boxes with the Monroe SIFE team to more than one hundred Key Food Stores in New York City and the Metro Area.  Monroe and Kellogg’s "Tony the Tiger" will be unveiling the boxes at a "SIFE Cereal Celebration" on Thursday, September 15 beginning at 8:00am.

For a complete list the 111 stores in the New York Metro Area that will be carrying the Kellogg’s SIFE box or an advance look at the artwork, please contact Gary Axelbank at 718-933-6700 x8315.  SIFE is a non-profit organization that encourages the skills of leadership and teamwork by way of a cooperative relationship between higher education and business. SIFE has chapters at more than 800 colleges in the United States, and more than 1400 colleges in 33 countries. It makes connections between what is learned in the college classroom and real-world situations.

The projects the Monroe College SIFE team presented at the national competition included Children Making Cents, in which SIFE students taught Bronx children aged 6-17 the importance of savings and how to open bank accounts. More than 135 children attended the seminar conducted by SIFE students. They then were taken on a tour of Commerce Bank, which included an inside look at an actual bank vault.

Mike Woods of FOX 5’s Good Day New York broadcast live from Monroe College on Wednesday, September 14 to acknowledge the release of the Kellogg’s Corn Flakes box with the SIFE team on the cover.
