Two Monroe Mustang all-star baseball players have received scholarships to continue their collegiate careers after graduating from Monroe. A two-time All-Region outfielder, sophomore Jovan Rodriguez has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Sacred Heart University (NEC Division I) and a two-time Second Team All-Region pitcher, sophomore Steven DeJesus has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the very strong baseball program at Molloy College (NYCAC, Division II). Both players attended Lehman HS. Rodriguez has also signed a contract to play in the elite summer collegiate ACBL (Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League) with the Stamford Robins.DeJesus was the Monroe ace for the past two seasons striking out 101 batters. In his two seasonswith Monroe, Rodriguez hit .436, with 73 hits, 30 RBI, and 53 stolen bases.Monroe outfielder Carlos Cruz was named the 2006 Region XV Defensive Player of the Year.This year the Monroe Mustang baseball team made the playoffs for the first time, finishing with a Region XV record of 10-11. This is only the third year of Monroe baseball. |
