The Department of Hospitality Management and the Culinary Arts has established a student chapter of the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality. NSMH is the premier professional organization for minority hospitality students, addressing diversity and multiculturalism, as well as the career development of student members. The organization provides events and programs that bring together college-level students, with company sponsors, industry representatives, other hospitality organizations, advisors and mentors. NSMH aims to be a resource for industry to find dynamic talent as well as for students to find qualified answers to relevant questions.
The chapter currently has an executive board which encompasses both campuses and alumni. We currently have 34 active members with a potential 14 applications to be processed.
For the winter semester members will be focusing on fundraising efforts for the NSMH’s National Conference in Dallas, Texas in February. NSMH at Monroe will also focus their efforts on philanthropy, the professional development of members, and the increase of our membership with a series of social, educational and professional events. |
