Lady Mustangs streak ends

Going into an historic three-game Christmas week trip to Florida to play three Division I teams, the Monroe Lady Mustangs basketball team held a winning streak of 47-games, the longest active winning streak in the nation for any team in any division, men or women.

But, for the first time since the 2005 NJCAA finals on March 19, 2005, the Monroe College Lady Mustangs lost a basketball game. Beaten on Thursday, December 28 by Florida Community College of Jacksonville (Division I), 64-62, in a game played at the Palm Beach Holiday classic, the Lady Mustangs saw their record-setting 47-game winning streak come to an end. It was the longest active streak of any team in any division, men or women.

"You never like to lose, much less have such a great run ended," reasoned Coach Seth Goodman after the game. "But, we're realists. Our goal is to win the national championship and that is still very much a possibility."

Last year Monroe was undefeated (36-0) NJCAA, Division III National Champions.
