Athletic Awards

On Wednesday, May 23 the Monroe College Department of Athletics commemorated the completion of its sports seasons with a gala awards ceremony at Maestro’s on Bronxdale Avenue.  At the ceremony, each coach presented awards to the Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Player, MVP, and also a Coaches Award for overall sportsmanship.

The Male Athlete of the Year was baseball player Luis Rivas, who leaves Monroe after not only excelling on the baseball field, but in the classroom, posting a 3.75 GPA.  The Female Athlete of the Year, Marielle Garcia, played two sports, volleyball and softball.

The recipient of the “Bob Greenberg Award” for overall excellence went to soccer player Craig Young.  Craig is an all-star not only on the field, but as a student, and in community service.
