On Thursday, May 24, the Monroe College Department of Student Services held a panel discussion entitled Lyrically Correct: Should Hip-hop Be on Trial? Moderated by TV-talk show host Gary Axelbank, the panel featured Hip-hop feminist author Joan, Morgan; writer Asha Bandele; Shawn Peters, the Manager of Rebel Soul Music; Hip-hop artist Chen Lo; Rev. Robert Foley of the Cosmos Church in the Bronx; Monroe College Professor Flemmie Kitrell; and Monroe students Zorina Hart and Kareem Tyson. More than two hundred people packed the college’s King Hall Gymnasium to participate in the discussion about hip-hop culture, language, music and its affect on society. |
