Monroe Culinary Continues to win!

On Saturday, April 16th, the Monroe Culinary Team had another outstanding day at an American Culinary Federation (ACF)- sanctioned competition. In the kitchens of Schenectady County CC, David Montalvo and Stephanie Cardenas took Gold Medals in the student hot food categories. David’s was in the poultry category and Stephanie won a pastry-category gold medal for her scrumptious dish featuring a chocolate cake that one of the judges proclaimed to be one of the best he’d ever tasted.

Stepping out of student competition and into the pressure-packed professional arena, three of our shining stars, Jessica Johnson, Thomas Dippold and Tihelia James all took professional silver medals. Jessica’s was in pastry, and Tom and Tihelia won in the poultry category. The judges and fellow competitors were thoroughly impressed with the pride, passion and professionalism of these students.

ACF northeast vice-president, Chef Bill Tillinghast, from Ai Philadelphia, was so impressed that he asked if he could join us for our ACF-sanctioned Greater New York Culinary Challenge on Saturday, May 14, which will take place in the Monroe Culinary Arts Center in New Rochelle, NY.

It’s an incredible tribute to the quality of the Monroe Culinary program that the college continues to dominate competitions. Since September, the Monroe culinary medal count is over seventy, with almost all of those gold or silver medals and none lower than bronze. The students are awesome and their culinary futures very bright!
