In a continual effort to improve the learning experience for students, on Friday, September 28 Monroe College unveiled its new-and-improved Thomas P. Schnitzler Library at the Bronx Campus. Complete with new computers, bookshelves and a library café, the updated space is sure to become a favorite for studying, researching, or curling up with a book.
“It’s been a lot of hard work and time, but we’re so excited to finally reveal the new library,” explains Kristine Paulus, Chief Librarian. “Not only does the space look more inviting, but it contains all the resources our students may need to have a successful educational experience – which is something we are very proud of.”
Those resources include all new iCloud computers, a state-of-the-art printer, and more library catalog search stations. If additional help is needed, a new reference desk will feature twice as many librarians, always on hand to assist with whatever questions a student may have.
Visiting for pleasure? Students can check out the book display featuring new books including award winners and bestsellers, the Book Club’s newest obsession, and current happenings at the library.
Aesthetically, the library is a completely new space. A new floor covered by a bright, new carpet, gives the library an inviting look and feel. Sturdier and shorter bookshelves have replaced the tired old shelves, and a library café just outside of the space features comfortable tables and chairs.
Still to come is a laptop charging and plug-in area, new LED lighting, and a comfortable reading lounge. |
