As part of the Monroe College King Graduate School for Urban Studies and Applied Research’s ongoing lecture series by leading experts on contemporary urban subjects, on December 5 Reshma Saujani, former Deputy Public Advocate and announced candidate for Public Advocate spoke to students, faculty, staff, and members of the college community about issues faced by immigrant entrepreneurs. It’s a topic she studied extensively while working in the Public Advocate’s office and she presented results of her research and work with these entrepreneurs. In addition to identifying obstacles faced by this emerging sector of New York’s business community, she discussed solutions on how immigrant entrepreneurs can prosper in a challenging environment.
“These entrepreneurs are vital to our economic strength,” said King Graduate School Dean Michael Marinaccio, “and rather than overlook them, Ms. Saujani has focused on them as a way to not only empower their efforts, but to help build a broader and more effective business community in the Bronx and the city. This was a meaningful event, especially for our urban graduate students.” |
