On Monday September 24th, Monroe College hosted its annual Craig Rutman Memorial event. This annual chef’s legacy tribute is the College’s only fund-raising event with all of the proceeds going to support the Hospitality & Culinary students who will spend the semester studying abroad in Italy. Typically this beautiful event is held in the summer however, this year’s event was held in the fall and, given the beautiful weather, was able to be held in the Courtyard. The evening’s theme of “Farm-to-Table Regional Italian” was enhanced by the beautiful fall accent colors chosen.
All of the delicious food was prepared by the culinary students, staff and faculty with the hospitality students providing excellent service, all under the direction of Dean Frank Constantino. The 200 guests that attended helped to raise over $50,000 for the students of the study abroad program.
Associate Vice President of the Office of Career Advancement, Carol Genese, and her staff handled the details of the event ensuring that all went off without a hitch. Dean Genese summarized the evening saying, “It was a beautiful night under the stars but the real stars was the Culinary and Study Abroad students!” The donors were later treated to a video highlighting some of the incredible and invaluable experiences that last year’s students had during their Semester in Italy. It was easy to see from the video that the experiences had by the students left a permanent impression and inspired them to do great things. The immediate impact can be seen in the new jobs or promotions the students received after their trip.
