Each June, Monroe celebrates its graduates with the requisite pomp and circumstance, guest speakers, well wishes, and cap tossing. But for those who graduate in December, the milestone can seem a little less dramatic. So, on December 5, the Office of Alumni Relations hosted the first-ever Strawberries and Champagne Reception for December 2012 Graduates.
At the event, graduates were welcomed by Director of Alumni Relations Leslie Jerome. Proud and smiling, she invited the students to sample champagne and to indulge in chocolate and caramel-dipped strawberries, fruit, and cookies, as a way to acknowledge their achievements.
Mrs. Jerome greeted each graduate as they entered and since they now qualify, she provided information about Monroe’s Alumni Network. The Office of Career Advancement also had a presence at the event. Graduates were encouraged to pursue their dreams and were given resume and cover letter tips to help them begin their journey into the “real world.”
“We want to celebrate the December graduating students, and recognize that they have reached a major milestone and honor their impressive accomplishments,” explained Mrs. Jerome. “This was a way to say ‘thank you’ for all their hard work and to let them know that we want to stay connected so we can continue to support them even after they leave Monroe.”
The event was a success and will, as Mrs. Jerome explained, only get better in the years to come. |
