The School of Education offered an “Education In Dance and the Related Arts” workshop for students on Thursday March 15 at the MAC Olympic room. Miriam Bernabi, Director of Arts for the Greenburgh Central 7 School District, and Jo Frederiksen and Mr. N’Gor from the Education In Dance Related Arts Company on 16th Street in NYC, ran a participatory workshop on interactive movement, dance, music and arts program designed to teach early childhood educators how to nurture the creative arts. This unique opportunity guided the students towards exploring creativity and encouraging positive self-image and self-esteem. The theory that was plainly evident is that, through actions, the arts can be essential to opening new insights and enriching the lives of children.
“The overwhelming research points to increased academic performance for students who have a strong arts program,” said Dr. Josephine Moffett, Dean of the School of Education. “This workshop was a way to hit that point home for our students so that when they get in front of children, they know what can truly make them most successful.”
