School Spirit is Booming in the Bronx

On January 19 more than five hundred students attended the Club Fair hosted by the Office of Student Activities. With over twenty clubs present, students got the opportunity to meet with club members and advisors and they also signed up to join the clubs. There is a club for each major at the college, as well as social/performance groups.

“Students who are involved in the different activities and clubs know that participation helps expose them to various opportunities making them better prepared to enter the workforce” said Edith Saint Fleur, Director of Student Activities.

The Pre Law Club won the display contest for the second consecutive semester.

But that’s not all. The Office of Student Activities plans a variety of on and off campus events and workshops including on-campus events and games such as The Price is Right, Jeopardy and Bingo. There is also open gym basketball, volleyball, and even belly dancing. During the months of February and March there will be several “lunch and learn” workshops.

To keep it festive, “MAC the Mascot” is present at most of those events. Note: coming in February “Lady MAC” will be coming to the Bronx Campus.

“With new technology, signing up for events easier and faster,” said Ms. Saint Fleur.

The new student activities gadget, which can be found on MyMonroe, was introduced in the fall of 2011. With this awesome gadget, students and staff get the opportunity to view and purchase tickets for all off and on campus events. Additionally, there’s a texting line (347-573-3366), where students can get updates on current events. Students can text this number at any time if they have any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding events.

The Student Activities Office is located on the first floor of King Hall and they’re open Monday through Friday. Students are always encouraged to stop by with their questions, comments, suggestions and ideas because they’re always looking for ways to do things better, so your input can mean a lot.

Whether you are a recent high school graduate, transfer student, veteran, or returning to school after being out for a few years, there is something for everyone in the Student Activities Office!
