If the idea was to inaugurate a new era into Monroe SIFE, then the mission was well-accomplished. Students, faculty, and staff who attended the “Infusion” in Ustin Hall were captivated by the energy, excitement, and presentations that underscored the benefits of joining the nationally-recognized Monroe College SIFE (Students ion Free Enterprise) team.
The event, which was organized by the Monroe SIFE Alumni Network, gave students the opportunity to learn firsthand about Monroe SIFE and provided insight as to how participation in SIFE has changed the lives of team members as well as people throughout the community.
On hand were members of the National Championship-winning Monroe SIFE team, who were featured on boxes of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes in 2005. Many of them have moved on to successful careers in business, government, academia, medical administration, and information technology. All credited their career success to their SIFE experiences.
According to OCA Dean Carol Genese, “The projects that SIFE students work on bring great personal fulfillment because they change the lives of others. This helps students develop the leadership, teamwork, and communication skills that are essential for them to be successful in any career. I would recommend that any student looking to prepare for the workforce should join SIFE.”
Current SIFE activities include entrepreneurial, environmental, health, and international civil rights projects.
Some o f the returning alums hadn’t seen their former team members in some time and so they reprised their infectious call-and-response SIFE cheer:
When the economy is down, the SIFE team arrives,
Teaching you the principles of free enterprise;
Using all the knowledge that we gained from the college,
Giving us the skills that we need to survive.
It’s SIFE!
