A Monroe hoopster is going to the dance. Former Mustang Davon Marshall was the MVP of the Big South Conference Tournament this past weekend as the (15-20) Liberty Flames captured their first championship since 2004 and qualified for the NCAA tournament. Known as a sharp-shooter during his two years at Monroe (2010-12), Marshall set the tournament record with 17 three-pointers. He was an uncanny 17/24 from the arc (.708) in the four games. In fact, he's only two treys away from setting the Flames' single season three-point record.
Marshall led the Mustangs in scoring in 2012, averaging 16.1 ppg and is Monroe's fourth all-time leading scorer with 956 career points.
Mike Nurse, who played for Monroe in 1998, went to the NCAA Final Four with Iowa State, Charles Funches and Mike Tuitt who played for Monroe in 2009 played in the NCAA tournament with Hampton University, and Randy Dezouvre who was with Monroe 2008-10 played in the NCAA's for Iona.
