The Univeristy of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) women's soccer program just got happier as one of Monroe's best-ever soccer players, Happy Orere-Amadu, will be continuing her college career with the Roadrunners. The Nigerian native who played her HS ball at Truman in the Bronx, became known as one of the most intense and talented Mustangs on the field and most affable off the field. She is sure to excel in the NCAA.
“As much as we are going to miss Happy's incredible talents, I am thrilled that she will be continuing her career as a student-athlete at UTSA with a first-rate coaching staff" said Mustang head coach Jonathan Garbar. "It has been a pleasure and an honor to have worked alongside Happy toward achieving her goals of becoming one of the most complete and dynamic players in the country. We will miss her ability to exemplify both compassion and ferocity in everything she does. There is no definitive ceiling for Happy's unique gifts, but we are more than confident that UTSA is the right place to continue her journey to find it.”
A two-year player for the Mustangs, Orere-Amadu had 25 goals and 13 assists in her 28 games. She was a 2012 honorable mention NJCAA All-American, on the 2011 NJCAA Division I all-tournament team, and a 2011 NJCAA all-region and all-district player. In high school she was 2010-11 first-team All-New York City.
Always a big-game player who rose to the occasion, Happy had a number of important goals for Mornoe, maybe none more memorable than the second half tally she blasted home to give Monroe a thrilling 1-0 win in the 2011 Region title game.
Not only is USTA going to be happy with their new midfielder, but she, too is happy about going to the Lone Star State.
"I was attracted to UTSA because they offer programs for soccer and athletic coaching and I enjoyed the location, the staff, the coaches and the team,” she said.
