Doctors and nurses provide patient care but it is the hospital administrator who cares for and manages every aspect of the medical facility. Hospital administrators are responsible for staff recruitment, expanding research programs, budget development, public relations, and more. It is not a 9 to 5 profession; hospital administrators must be available 24/7 to resolve all manner of staff, patient and organizational issues. Success in a hospital administration career requires leadership, critical thinking, results-oriented focus, advanced health-related knowledge, and exemplary interpersonal skills.
