Associate (A.A.S.) Degree Program in Medical Assisting

The Medical Assisting Degree program will help students learn to coordinate patient care, be effective team members in the delivery of healthcare, and develop multiple skills and talents in a wide variety of clinical and administrative tasks.

Students in the Medical Assisting program will find an expanding profession. New York State Department of Labor’s occupational projections in 2012 reveal a 31% increase in the number of medical assistants that will be required between 2010-2020.

Students in the Medical Assisting program will find an expanding profession. New York State Department of Labor’s occupational projections reveal a 31% increase in the number of medical assistants that will be required between 2010-2020.

Medical Assistants perform a variety of patient care activities under the jurisdiction of the physician, such as preparing the treatment rooms for patient examination, interviewing patients, recording patient vital signs, scheduling patient appointments, sterilizes instruments, and positions instruments and equipment.

Additionally, Medical Assistants may have patient scheduling and billing responsibilities, and must be responsive to patients' needs.

Career Opportunities

Monroe's graduates in Medical Assisting will be qualified for employment in the following venues: physician's private or group practices, acute care hospitals, ambulatory care centers, long term care facilities and rehabilitation facilities.
