The School of Criminal Justice was founded in 2003 as a service-oriented response to the September 11th attacks. We recognized the need for highly trained criminal justice professionals both locally and federally. We structured our curriculum to empower future law enforcement officers, social justice workers and emergency responders to solve real-life, on the job problems. At Monroe College, we believe in the values of education, listening and changing people’s lives. For students who are undecided about their future career goals, the Criminal Justice Associates Degree program helps them pursue an education and can act as a stepping stone toward a bachelor’s degree. Associate’s degree graduates have more opportunities for career advancement and can attract higher salaries than high school graduates. Students enrolled in the Criminal Justice Associates Degree program are required to complete 60 credits in career-oriented courses like policing, corrections, social work, child welfare, substance abuse counseling and investigation.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Monroe College sets students up to pursue higher level managerial positions in the private and public sectors or a Masters in the field. Criminal Justice Bachelor’s Degree students are required to fulfill 120 credits in order to complete the program. Program courses include criminal law, homeland security, public safety and courts administration.
