MINOR IN EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
- In the aftermath of the attacks on 9/11 and with the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, the field of Emergency Management has evolved into a field of excellence with limitless opportunities, growth and potential.
- Goals of an Emergency Management professional are saving lives and protecting property and the environment during emergencies and disasters by mitigating, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters/emergencies.
- To get the job done, an individual will be charges with coordinating disaster response or crisis management activities, providing disaster preparedness training, and preparing emergency plans and procedures for natural (e.g., hurricanes, floods, earthquakes), wartime (terrorist attacks), or technological (e.g., nuclear power plant emergencies, hazardous materials spills) disasters, hostage situations or civil unrest.
In addition to all other Criminal Justice degree requirements, the Emergency Management requires successful completion of 21 credits in Emergency Management related courses.
This must consist of:
