Why Select a Minor?

Companies today are increasingly looking for applicants that have focused backgrounds and skill sets which closely match their specific needs. Selecting a minor will enable you to use your Major Area and Open Electives, to gain expertise in a specific related area that will complement the knowledge gained in your major area of study. Choosing a minor does not increase the length of your program.

Your minor will appear on your official transcript.

What is the difference between a Concentration and Minor?

Minors are typically 21 credits and are available to students that are earning a Bachelor’s degree. Concentrations are 15 credits and are for students who are earning an Associate degree.

Does a minor or concentration require additional coursework?

Choosing a minor does not increase the length of your program.

The majority of Monroe’s Bachelor’s programs are 120 credits and the Associate programs are all 60 credits. The concentrations and minors fit within these credits. The minor usually requires students to use all of their electives towards the focus of their study.
