Why Minor in Web and Database Technologies?

The growth of the Internet and the expansion of the World Wide Web (the graphical portion of the Internet) have generated a variety of occupations related to the design, development, and maintenance of Web sites and their servers. In addition, the expanding integration of Internet technologies into businesses, the rapid growth of e-commerce has resulted in a growing need for specialists who can develop and support Internet and intranet applications as well as database administrators.

Where do Web and Database professionals work?

  • Web Designer/Developer/Administrator - Webmasters are responsible for all technical aspects of a Web site, including performance issues such as speed of access, and for approving the content of the site. Internet developers or Web developers, also called Web designers, are responsible for day-to-day site creation and design. A Web Administrator is responsible for acquiring and configuring the hardware and software infrastructure behind successful sites.
  • Database Administrators - Database administrators organize, track, and store information for businesses and other organizations. They also design and coordinate database security systems. These jobs are one of the fastest growing fields according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
