Minor in Human Services

An Overview

The Human Services minor will provide students with the skills required to serve clients in a variety of public outreach organizations. They work alongside social workers, detectives, doctors, and other specialists who help individuals tackle major challenges in their lives. Many human services programs provide intervention for citizens with substance abuse problems or victims of crime or violence. Human Services is focused on prevention as well as remediation of problems and maintaining a commitment to improving the overall quality of life of service populations.

Human Service professionals serve individuals and families with low incomes; people with mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, or late-onset disabilities; people who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing, or deaf-blind; parents needing child care services, child support and/or healthcare for their children; and families facing catastrophic medical expenses for their children.

Why Minor in Human Services?

A minor in Human Services will allow students to focus part of their degree program on a specific area of interest.
