Honors Program Degree Requirements

Honors Units are awarded for completing honors-level courses or "contracts."  Honors Contracts must be approved before the start of the academic experience and are monitored by the Honors Board. 

Honors Units

Honors courses and Honors sections

A student earns three Honors Units for completing a three-credit Honors-designated course or honors section on the following conditions:

  • Achievement of a final grade of "B" or higher
  • Completion of a final exam, paper or project
  • Participation in Honors Colloquium

 

Honors Contracts

Three Honors Units may also be earned by students completing Honors Contracts on the following conditions:

  • Achievement of a final grade of "B" or higher in a related course, seminar, independent study, or internship.
  • Compliance with the schedule of meeting dates
  • Submission of working bibliography, midterm progress report, final evaluation
  • Completion of a final paper or project
  • Presentation at the Honors Colloquium

Honors Diploma

To earn distinction as an Honors Program graduate, students must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, and successfully complete HN 150: The Honors Experience with a final grade of "B" or higher.  Additionally, to earn distinction at the Bachelor's level, students must earn a total of 18 Honors Units.  To earn distinction at the Associate level, students must earn at least 9 Honors Units.

 

Students who successfully meet all the requirements of the Honors Program will receive a notation on their diploma and transcript and are recognized as Honors Program graduates at commencement. 

 

Honors Courses are offered in two basic forms: 

  •  Multidisciplinary Core Honors Courses

HN 150     The Honors Experience

HN 250     The Evolution of the American Presidency

HN 260     The Holocaust, Genocide, & Human Rights Movement in the 20th Century

 

  •  Honors sections of courses in the regular curriculum

e.g. MG 260 Entrepreneurship - Honors

 

Each semester, during the registration period, a listing of Honors courses is published and distributed by the Honors Board.
