The School of Information Technology believes that a quality education is not only about high technology. While there is an emphasis on access to state-of-the-art technology (see "Facilities"), IT students learn from a professional faculty of technology practitioners. Also, they make an extra effort to bring in a variety of guest speakers who enhance the value of the classroom experience. Monroe IT students apply their classroom-learned skills to actual work in the community. They have made their mark by providing installations of wireless technology to a number of businesses, organizations, and community facilities. They also work with senior citizens in community centers. IT students are required to perform Internships so that they are able to not-only get real world experience "on the job", but enhance their resumes and make contacts that will launch meaningful careers. These Internships are arranged with local, national, and international companies. The School of IT has meaningful relationships with numerous Professional organizations that help transform a Monroe technology education into a gateway to a career. These organizations include the Association for Computing Machinery , NYC Wireless, NYACC: New York Amateur Computer Club , IEEE: Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers , NYPC: New York Personal Computers Users Group. |
