Client Service Coordinator
“Dig deep, push forward and never give up on your goals and dreams.”
Lakiesha Johnson is a person who used determination and a good education to help her fulfill her goals. She has faced many obstacles and today she is living proof of how education can change one’s life.
Lakiesha was gainfully employed before the World Trade Center tragedy. However, she lacked a solid educational background and found it difficult to re-enter the business world. She entered Monroe College where she received her Associate Degree in Business Administration in 2005 and her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management in 2007.
At first, she was intimidated by the young people in her class, but was comforted seeing that there were others in her age group, focused on achieving the same goal.
Having completed her studies in 2007, she had difficulty finding employment. She was referred to the Bottomless Closet as a client. The bottomless Closet is a non-profit organization that provides business attire to New York City women who are going back to work. Lakiesha went from being a client at the Bottomless Closet to being a success story of the organization. She was featured on the “Today Show” in their “Money Makeover” segment where they followed her as she paid off some of her debt.
The Bottomless Closet hired her four years ago. She was initially hired as an Administrative Assistant. Currently, she is the Client Services Coordinator. Lakiesha loves her job. As she says, “I am able to encourage and motivate others to dig deep, push forward and never give up on their goals and dreams”. Lakiesha says a big thank you to all the deans, faculty, staff and tutors for believing in her, even when she found it difficult to believe in herself.
