Alumni Basketball Game and Pep Rally – January 2008
On Thursday, January 24, Monroe College held the kickoff to its 75th Anniversary Homecoming weekend with an Alumni basketball game and pep rally on their home court at Mt. St. Michael Academy. Along with a fabulous drum line performance by the Westchester Invaders from Yonkers, and stirring time-out shows by the Monroe Dancers and Monroe cheerleaders, the highlights of the evening were provided by the returning alumni basketball players who squared off against current staff and faculty in a fun-filled, action-packed game. Along with Issiah Francis, who is Monroe's all-time men's leading scorer, there were five players from the legendary 1997-98 team that went 31-3 and made it to the NJCAA Division III finals: Allen Jenkins, Edmund Dadzie, Terrel Mackey, Dave Wiggins, and Tyrone Gibson. There were also three players from the 2002-03 team that went 31-3 and finished fifth in the national tournament: Ryan Williams, Kevin Bell, and Jason Frazier. The three-point shooting contest that was held before the game was won by current Lady Mustang Tiana Gilliam and the half-time slam-dunk contest featured a spectacular aerial show playoff between Ryan Williams and current Mustang Lester Hunte. The duel was ultimately won by Hunte. Pictures |

The event proved to be a very special event, with Ms. Roberts sharing her informative, practical and inspiring advice to those in attendance. Ms. Megan Martin, Marketing Coordinator for "Women for Hire" wrote to us in an email saying "Thanks for purchasing tickets for your students. We're excited to have them there. Bachelor’s Program 10th Anniversary Program – April 2007
| Hard to believe, but the Monroe College Bachelors Program recently celebrated its tenth year anniversary. To honor the many successes of our graduates who are now successful alumni, on Friday, April 20th at the Bronx campus Dean Goldstein hosted an amazing celebratory party. The King Hall gym was dramatically transformed to appear like a beachfront Caribbean resort, complete with a specially-lighted tent that gracefully covered most of the gym, creating an inviting, intimate setting. Speeches were presented honoring President Jerome, Alumni Director Leslie Jerome, and special accolades were bestowed upon Ted Goldstein, the long time Dean of the Bachelors Program. In addition, many of our distinguished alumni, including Ameil Sloley, Catherine Barreto, James Gravely and Ann Marie Ferguson shared memories of their days at Monroe with the other 200 alumni, friends, faculty and staff members in attendance. The food was amazing, with a sumptuous assortment of Caribbean and contemporary delights. The DJ's rocked the room and those who took to the dance floor showed moves seldom seen before on our historic hard wood court! Congrats again to Ted, the alumni, and all the Bachelor's students! |
Wine, Cheese, and Good Company – March 2007
| Networking, one of the great ways to accelerate your career, came to Monroe on a rainy Thursday evening as the Alumni Association hosted a party for a select group of Information Technology (Computer Information Systems) alumni, along with some of our outstanding current students. Held in our brand new "Alumni Welcome Center" located on the fourth floor of West Hall, the party was designed to get old friends and new acquaintances together in an informal setting. Guests enjoyed an ample assortment of wines and cheeses in a room decorated with fresh cut flowers. The pictures of successful alumni displayed on the walls of the Center served as a great ice breaker. Alumni shared their job experiences, and talked about current trends in the world of information technology. Several expressed amazement at how Monroe and the CIS / IT major have grown over the years. Comments like "I remember when we were taught key punch and word processing and not much more," were illustrative of the amazing growth we have experienced in recent years. Today's programs contrast greatly, with students learning how to implement networks, integrate hardware, software, and human resources in a client-server environment. They are taught to think critically and to communicate and work effectively as part of a team, which is essential in the modern technological office environment. The Networking Party for IT majors will be repeated for other majors in coming months. The party was a great way to bring together alumni and students, to share common experiences, and meet new people and develop mutually beneficial relationships. |
