Derrick Brown - Head Coach of Women's Softball
dbrown@monroecollege.edu An assistant coach for Lady Mustangs for the past three seasons, Coach Brown has cultivated an excellent career as a former professional baseball player in the Anaheim Angels organization, administrator with the New York Knicks, and Assistant General Manger for the Nashua Hawks of the North Atlantic Baseball League. He has also coached fast-pitch softball for the past ten years guiding two softball fast-pitch teams to a combined eight city championships.
Coach Brown served as Physical Education Director at Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club, providing recreational programs for thousands of inner-city youth. Currently, Coach Brown is a certified physical education teacher in the Bronx.
Coach Brown received his Bachelor's in Accounting from Mount Saint Mary College; and his Master's in Sports Management from East Stroudsburg University. |
Joey Garcia - Assistant Coach
Coach Garcia brings nine years of coaching experience to Monroe. He has coached an AAU program to three city championships.
He was also Assistant Coach at Bronx Leadership Academy High School in the Bronx for the past two seasons.
At Monroe, Coach Garcia will serve as strength and conditioning and first base coach. |
Gena Comenzo - Assistant Coach
Gena Comenzo is a versatile coach who is comfortable as a leader of young people. Her expertise and experience reaches not only into softball, but also into soccer, tennis, and other sports as well. Maybe most important, is Coach Comenzo’s commitment to helping young people use their love for athletics as a passport to larger goals. Having worked in summer camps and schools in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, she now is a manager with Harlem RBI, a unique year-round youth development program in East Harlem which serves more than 650 boys and girls aged 7-18, providing them with year-round sports, education and enrichment activities. |
