Internet Safety – October 8, 2009

On October 8th, members of the Criminal Justice Club attended a lecture on internet safety for children hosted by the Rye Youth Council.   The keynote speaker, Pamela Weaver, from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), provided information on cyber bullying, sexually explicit text messages, internet pornography, and criminal prosecution.  Also, the Westchester DA, Janet DeFiore, was on a panel of experts who answered audience questions.  The CJ Club plans to use the NCMEC  multimedia Internet safety presentations which utilize the latest statistics, online resources, videos, and expert tips to launch an outreach to children and adults in the South Bronx community so that they are safer on and offline.
