The Office of Disability Services provides accomodations toMonroe College students who have special needs. Monroe College is committed to helping students with disabilities obtain equal access to academic and programmatic services as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation in Education Act of 1973.

Steps to Request Services
- It is necessary to identify yourself in order to receive accommodations and related services. Students can do this by informing an admissions counselor during the admissions process or by contacting the disability counselor directly.
- Students must fill out the student release form and provide the appropriate documentation as described in Part C of the release form.
- Students willsee a disability counselor for an initial meeting. This is an opportunity for the student to learn more about available services and for the counselor to learn more about the student.
- Students should meet with the disability counselor at the beginning of each semester when accommodations are needed.
Accommodations Provided When Appropriate
- Notice to classroom instructors as to needed accommodations
- Extended time on exams
- Use of a computer for exams to write essays or answer short questions
- Separate testing center when requested
- The use of a tape recorder or calculator in class and/or on exams
- Preferential seating in class
- Audio-taped textbooks
- Access to campus computers that are programmed for enlarged print and graphics
- Referrals to other resources such as counseling, health services, and rehabilitation agencies
- Security assistance with evacuation, unlocking alarmed doors or elevators
