Deandra White - Hospitality Student Don Coqui Restaurant Banquet Manager’s Assistant
I am currently interning at Don Coqui Restaurant, a very fine Puerto Rican restaurant in New Rochelle, NY. I am the “Banquet Manager’s Assistant”, an interesting job where I assist in the marketing, organizing, and execution of special events held at the restaurant. Somewhat skeptical at first, I wondered how much I would grow in this area, but soon enough I came to the understand that the job requires hard work, focus, dedication and knowledge of the subject matter; all of which I am being taught and am learning gradually.
Overall, the experience has been a truly rewarding one, in which I have been taught a wealth of lessons, including how to function effectively and successfully in the world of work. I have gained knowledge, confidence and learned to act proactively. Also, I would like to thank the O.C.A who so tirelessly assisted me in pursuit of an internship.

Elias Encarnacion- Accounting Student Bernstein and Seidman CPA Assistant
While interning at Bernstein and Seidman CPA firm, I have been able to experience firsthand the notion of professionalism and how important a project can be for the firm itself as well as for the person in charge. My experience as in intern has been quite exhilarating as I get acquainted with various activities that once seemed alien to me. This internship has helped me gain experience in the field of accounting.
The most important thing as an intern is to ask questions because when one you don’t want to pretend to know everything, which can leave bad impression. I’ve learned that being professional is a task in itself because of the constant pressure of deadlines. In the face of it, the most important thing is to keep calm, which is the essence to fulfilling any task that may seem complex.

Gail Ann Passley- Criminal Justice Student Law Offices of Pearline Blackwood Legal Assistant
As I embark on my journey of fulfilling my goal of becoming a lawyer, I am privileged to be interning at the Law Offices of Pearline Blackwood. At the onset of my internship I was both elated and nervous at gaining a glance into what could be my future career. But as it’s turned out, I have learned so much over the course of my internship. I assist in researching information needed for cases and aid in compiling client files. Additionally, I also utilized what I have learned in class as I had to refer to the Penal Law in order to ascertain information regarding litigation cases. This internship has made me realize that being an attorney involves more than just knowing the law but also interacting with clients.
My internship experience has been very rewarding and I would highly recommend that students take advantage of the internship program as it is an important vehicle of exposure.

George Ewang- Business Universal Music Group Marketing Assistant
The hands-on, real world experience that I've gained through my internship has proved to be invaluable. It is an experience that I would never have encountered in the classroom. I networked with artists such as Nick Cannon and Juelz Santana, and also with record executives Antonio ”L.A” Reid and David Massey. Lionel Baboolal – Information Technology Bronx Workforce 1 (NY Dept. of Labor) Assist Administrator
Ihave learned a lot about myself during my internship. I have also learned about customer service and how to troubleshoot computers and other devices and many common software issues like virus removal and re-installing operating systems.
Though I am studying Information Technology, Bronx WorkForce 1 has given me valuable hands-on Administrative experience as well. I learned how to be proactive; when I have an idea or think something can be done a certain way, I speak up and my superiors like that. Many of my ideas have been implemented such as phone arrangements in the office space and how to organize information for certain projects and documents. This experience is very valuable to me and could not be achieved in a classroom setting alone.
Because customer service is our number one priority at Bronx WorkForce 1, I have improved my oral and written skills and have been able to polish off my speaking skills during presentations and also when speaking to an interviewer. Because my internship is affiliated with the government and the Department of Labor, I have learned how to act and conduct myself professionally. The staff is always respectful to each other and speaks with dignity and do not use slang or profanity. There is no hostility in the workplace; we all get along very well. Also, in order to be professional, we also dress professionally. Business attire is mandatory. I learned how to carry myself with pride and confidence and how to upgrade my verbal skills to set me apart from other people who speak with slang or have low self-esteem.
The internship is not paid, but the experience gained here and the contacts that you make everyday there greatly outweigh any pay that they could offer. This is a valuable internship with projects that are exactly like what you would perform in a job in the real world.

Helga Robles - Medical Administration
Healthy Respect
Administrative Assistant
My internship as an Administrative Assistant with a non for profit organization called Healthy Respect with Program Reach helped give me the insight of how a non-for-profit organization runs first hand, and what it takes to be a team player in such an industry.
As a result of the internship, I was offered a seasonal position as a Parent Coordinator with this non-for-profit organization.
It is refreshing to see how doors are beginning to open for me now that I have been prepared, in part by this internship. If it weren’t for the OCAs formula of success (Preparation + Opportunity = Success), I would have not been able to move on to the next phase of my professional life. If you get an internship to gain experience, just like me you will reap the benefits!
