Yellow Ribbon Program for Returning Veterans
 Upon acceptance, Monroe College honors our veterans by waiving the entrance fee!
Monroe College has hundreds of veterans and current service men and women attending. With the current situation in the world and the extreme demands being placed on our military personnel, we have a clear understanding of the needs of our military students.You need a school that recognizes your military service and offers credit for the training you have received, you need an institution that is affordable and you need to complete your degree quickly. Monroe can offer all of this to you.
Plus, Monroe is a member of Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC), the Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAp), and DANTES External Degree Catalog (DEDC). Military students can take courses during their off-duty hours at or near military installations in the United States, overseas, and on Navy ships.
Monroe College accepts American Council on Education (ACE) recommended credit for:
- College-Level Examination program (CLEP)
- Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES)
- Proficiency Examination Program (PEP)
- United States Armed Forces Institute (USAFI)
- Credits for Life Experience in the Military

New Regulations as of August 1:
- The maximum payment a veteran can receive for tuition and fees per academic year will be $17,500. Once that amount has been exhausted the college will use funds from the Yellow Ribbon Program to cover the balance of tuition.
- Veterans will not receive the Basic Allowance for Housing during mandatory school breaks. Example: School begins on September 7, 2011; the veteran will only receive the housing allowance for 24 days, not the month’s worth.
- Veterans will not receive a full housing allowance if they are less than full-time.
- Veterans taking 100 percent of their classes on line can now qualify for housing stipends of up to $673 per month for full-time enrollment.
- If students withdraw from any classes, their VCH33 payment will be reduced once the withdrawal and new enrollment status is reported to the VA.
