In their first competition on Saturday, April 25, the Monroe culinary team was an unqualified success. Participating in the Metro NY Culinary Competition Sponsored by Minors Food Service, the Monroe student chefs took the top six places (out of sixteen) capturing six of the eight medals awarded in the competition (two gold and four silver). "A lot goes into preparing for a completion like this," said Frank Costantino, Dean of the School of Hospitality Management and the Culinary Arts. "We have a state-of-the art facility for the students to train in and that helps," he said. "But you have to give credit to the coaching and, of course, to the students themselves, who spent hours perfecting their craft and were able to perform expertly under pressure."
Coached by instructor Chef Eric Pellizzari, the Monroe team prepared Chicken Chasseur, a classic French chicken, in the competition. The gold medal winners were Kareem David and James Daversa. |
