Homecoming - December 6

Judging from the first games of the season, this is going to be an exciting year for the Monroe College Mustangs and Lady Mustangs basketball teams. Neither team has lost a game yet. The Homecoming Doubleheader is Saturday, December 6 beginning at 12pm at Mr. St. Michael Academy. Come and root for Monroe!

The Monroe men have started off impressively winning their first five games of the season. In fact, this is Monroe's best start to open a season since they reeled off twelve straight to open the 2002-03 season. That streak resulted in a 31-3 record and a fifth place finish in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.

There is a lot to love about Coach Jeff Brustad's pre-season 27th-ranekd team. While mainstays like superstar Westly Perryman and Freddy Obame are sure to excite, newcomers Kyle Wright and Charles Funches have already made significant impact.

As for the women who won their season opener in typical overwhelming fashion (113-21 over Sullivan), Coach Seth Goodman has the unenviable task of trying to replace an All-American this season. But he just might have done that by bringing in solid front court player Paige Sprewell and scoring threat Regina Washington.

Maybe most importantly, Monroe returns seven players from last year's National Championship squad, including preseason All-American selection Talaya Robinson and fireplug Shakeena Halsey.

Both teams will be on center stage during the homecoming doubleheader on Saturday, December 6 with the women's tip-off at 12noon and men's at 2pm.
