Your dream of becoming a nurse begins with the Monroe College LPN-to-RN program, offered in conjunction with our School of Allied Health Professions.

Successful graduates are eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-RN) to become a Registered Nurse.

Important Note:

To qualify for the Monroe College RN Program, students must hold a current license as an LPN.

LPN Certificate Program

Associate (A.A.S) Degree in Practical Nursing

First Step: Visit Monroe College's Department of Nursing in West Hall, 4th floor, room 928, for an in-person interview.

Second Step: Complete admissions application for LPN-to-RN Program in the Admissions Office. Admission application fee is $35.00.

Third Step: Satisfactory completion of the English Placement Essay Examination.

Fourth Step: Demonstrate either by transcript of the completion of required foundation courses from a college credit-bearing institution, or enroll at Monroe to complete these required foundation courses: Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Pharmaceutical Calculations, Microbiology, Expository Writing, Introduction to Psychology, and Sociology

Fifth Step: Successfully complete the National League of Nursing (NLN-RN) and Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) examinations.

Sixth Step: Interview with members of Monroe's Nursing Department.

Seventh Step: Successfully complete the Mobility Profile Test

Eighth Step: Receive your acceptance letter and begin full-time day in the Registered Nurse Associate Degree Program at Monroe College.

Admission to this rigorous, high-quality program is competitive and seats are limited.

This is a FULL-TIME DAY program. Nursing students are expected to be available for didactic, clinical, lab and study-time between the hours of 8am and 9pm, Monday through Friday.

Prior to admission, students are required to successfully pass two entrance exams that assess math, English and science background as well as an interview.

Entrance tests:

1. National League for Nursing Practical Nurse Pre-Nursing Guidance Examination (NLN, PN PNG) - a minimum score of 60^th percentile must be achieved to be considered for admission

AND

2. Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) Test of Essential Academic Skills for LPN Candidates - a minimum overall score of 70% with no less than 45% in each subset must be achieved to be considered for admission.

For students working toward their LPN, these are the dates for the NLN and ATI exams:

September 27, September 28  (registration period ends August 24, 2008)

October 25 and October 26 (registration period ends October 23, 2008)

For those students entering the program already possessing current LPN licensure, a Mobility Profile that assesses foundation level nursing is also required.

Note: There are fees for both the National League for Nursing Pre- Nursing Guidance Examination for Practical Nurse Candidates and the American Technologies Institute Examination for Practical Nurses, which are required for admission to the program.

PN transition courses begin in September 2008

Registration for transition (foundation) courses begins immediately.

LPN's requesting immediate consideration into the RN program must meet the following requirements:

• Graduation from a college-credit bearing program with credits no greater than two-years old, in the following courses: Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Calculations, Expository Writing, Introduction to Psychology, Sociology
• Science grades of ‘B' (80) or higher
• Liberal Arts grades of 'C' (70) or higher
• GPA must be 2.5 or above

If you are currently an LPN and meet all of the above criteria you are eligible to take the entrance examinations for the RN program.
