There’s something about New York that inspires. The pulse of its creativity and the energy emanating from its skyline seem to radiate outward to every corner of the world. It’s not easy to make it here, but those who try are possessed of ample determination and even bigger dreams. At Monroe, those people are the 170 international students who arrive each year with one common goal – success. And succeed they do. Not simply in the disciplines they study, but in the friendships they form.
Since 1933, Monroe has been more than just a home away from home for students from nearly every continent in the world; it has been an extended family. Today, that family includes scholars from India, Pakistan, Nepal, China, Japan, the Caribbean and more. Add to this impressive mix a varied student body from the United States and you have a college as rich and textured in its diversity as it is in its educational curricula.
More than a College, a Family.
College can be difficult, particularly when you’re trying to learn the customs of a new country. But at Monroe, you’ll find a very unique culture of caring. This is not a place of huge, impersonal lecture halls. Monroe is an environment of small classrooms, most with less than 25 students, and professors who know you by name. A place where the college president might sit down next to you in the cafeteria. A place where every student is assigned an Academic Advisor to monitor their progress. Here, we know you and care about your progress. Monroe is an entire family of support. One you’ll have for a lifetime.
Education for the Real World.
Monroe teaches real world skills that can be applied right away. One of the ways we do this is by hiring professors who actually work in the disciplines they teach. This means students are taught skills and procedures in use, right now. We also encourage all our students to get work experience at well-known companies “before” they graduate. Such companies include IBM,MTV, the United Nations,N.Y.P.D., Price Waterhouse Coopers and more. By following this path, students are ready for additional practical training the year after graduation
English Skills and Honors Program
Monroe’s innovative EASE (English with Academic Support) program provides language assistance right on campus, allowing you to learn English concurrently with the rest of your studies. Be assured that tutoring is available throughout your academic career. Those students who demonstrate academic success may also be selected to enter the Monroe Honors Program, which allows gifted students to participate in enhanced intellectual coursework ranging from the Evolution of the American Presidency to Human Rights in the 20th Century.
