Nobody likes taxes. Nobody, that is, except Sushana Guthrie. After taking Introduction to Taxation at Monroe, she was hooked. But it took a while for her passion to become a paying career.
In the meantime, she joined Monroe SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) and helped the team win a national championship. Their winning proposal was called Cupid in Business, a program that offered free business advice to aspiring entrepreneurs and helped them draft business plans. Sushana had aspirations of her own and headed off to earn her MBA.
But she wasn’t sure what her business would be, until the market melted down in 2008. Looking to earn a little extra money she began preparing tax returns for friends. Soon she added more clients. Now she’s up to five hundred returns a year and has her own tax firm in the Bronx with more planned. Ben Franklin said the only certain things in life are death and taxes.
To that list we’d like to add Sushana’s ongoing success.
