Fall Sports Flying!

As they prepare for the playoffs, the Monroe men’s soccer and women’s volleyball teams are the best they’ve ever been. The Mustangs finished their regular season as the #3-ranked team in the nation and the Lady Mustangs are in the top 30.

At 13-0-1 and in a logjam with Suffolk for first place in Region XV, the Monroe Mustangs soccer team is poised and ready for an historic playoff run. This is the best record a Monroe soccer team has ever had and their #3 NJCAA, Division III ranking is the best-ever at Monroe.

“It’s such a talented team,” said second-year Coach Marcus DiBernardo, “and we knew we’d be good. But right now our focus is taking each playoff game one at a time. If we do that, everything will fall into place.”

The Mustangs have an incredible 48-8 goals for and against advantage.

In women’s volleyball, first year Coach Justin Stack has made the most of the Lady Mustangs first year of Division II play. While the competition is stronger, especially when it comes to the playoffs, the 22-2 Lady Mustangs seem ready to make their mark.

‘Maybe we’ll sneak up on some teams in the playoffs since they haven’t seen such a great team from Monroe ever before,” Coach Stack said. “Once they play us head-to-head, they’ll get an idea of how close-knit a unit these athletes are.”

Going into the final weekend of regular season play, the Lady Mustangs have won 18 matches in a row and 56 of their last 57 games.
