Practical Nursing

Program Description:

The Monroe College Certificate in Practical Nursing program is a three-semester course of study. The program is based on a framework of basic human needs which provides the structure for the development of the curriculum. Each nursing course is developed within this framework and forms the basis for nursing care. Components of the nursing process, communication, standards of care and ethics are incorporated into all areas of the program. Additionally, students learn principles of communication and how to establish therapeutic interpersonal relationships. Nursing courses involve classroom instruction as well as laboratory simulation and clinical experiences. Upon completion of the program the student is awarded and Certificate in Nursing and is eligible to take the NCLEX –PN.

Nursing classes are only offered during the day and nursing students are usually on campus from 9:00am-5:00pm daily. Nursing students are highly discouraged from working full-time while attending school.
