Beginning in the fall, the King Graduate School will offer an M.S. degree program in Criminal Justice. This new Master's program in Criminal Justice will significantly expand students' career opportunities in domestic and international crime-fighting with the FBI, CIA, NSA, TSA, counter-terrorism, homeland security, drug enforcement, customs and border protections, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the Secret Service, and other agencies.

This is the only program of its kind available in the Bronx, which makes it particularly convenient for those who reside in the northern suburbs and surrounding areas.

"The criminal justice system must now cope with the new threats of international drug cartels, transnational crime, and global terrorism," said Dr. Basil Wilson, Assistant Dean of CJ Graduate Studies. "As a result, a graduate education has become indispensable to criminal justice professionals who aspire to leadership positions in federal, state and city agencies."

The innovative curriculum in the Master of Science program in Criminal Justice will deepen the student's understanding of the changing national and international environment. Graduates will develop competencies in data analysis, research methods and crime reduction strategies. Emphasis will be placed on the development of managerial writing skills, critical thinking and knowledge of the criminal justice literature.

"Monroe's philosophy of real world education will be front and center in this M.S. Program," said Dean Michele Rodney of the Monroe School of Criminal Justice. "The faculty is comprised of professors with practical criminal justice experience and they will continue to bring that unique sense of reality into the classrooms for an unparalleled educational experience."

Monroe College has a number of different ways to help finance a graduate education including scholarships for those currently working in law enforcement as well as returning veterans (through the US Department of Veteran Affairs' Yellow Ribbon bill). Also, the curriculum caters to working professionals as one-third of each course is offered on-line.

The open houses for the Master of Science program in Criminal Justice will take place on the Bronx and New Rochelle campuses on Tuesday, August 18 frpm 9:00am - 7:00pm.
