New York State Financial Aid

In addition to Federal Financial Aid, a variety of New York State programs are available to qualified students:

TAP is a New York State entitlement program for New York State residents who will attend a college located in New York State. The maximum award is $5,000 a year for those students who qualify. Students' actual grants will vary depending upon family status, prior year's income, and prior TAP usage.

Please note that a student under 22 years of age must meet special conditions to be eligible for TAP as an independent student. Freshmen may see the Freshmen Financial Aid Office for information concerning these conditions, as well as for the current TAP award schedule.

Students wishing to apply for TAP must first file the FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid), listing the New York State schools they are applying to or they are planning to attend. NYS HESC (Higher Education Services Corporation) will mail students an Express TAP Application (ETA) based on the current information reported on their FAFSA. The deadline date for returning the ETA is May 1 of the current academic year. Go to https://www.tapweb.org/totw/ to fill out a TAP online application.  This is usually part of the FAFSA on the WEB application process.

This program is for part-time undergraduate study at participating degree-granting institutions in New York State. For the purpose of this program, part-time study means being enrolled for at least 6 but less than 12 semester hours.

The participating college selects recipients from among eligible students and determines the actual amount of the award based upon a student's TAP eligibility and the amount of money available at the institution. The award cannot be more than the cost of tuition. Students must successfully complete the semester in order to continue to be eligible for the award. Students must complete an APT application.  For more information, please contact your Student Financial Services Counselor.

Students who are listed on an official tribal roll of a New York State tribe or who are children of an enrolled member may be entitled to aid under this program. Awards may be up to $1,100 per year for as many as four years of full-time study. For application and program details, contact:
