Online Learning is an innovative development in education that uses the Internet to facilitate learning without limitations of time and place. Monroe College makes it possible for students to take classes without attending regular classroom sessions. Online Learning students use state-of-the-art technology to communicate with fellow students, faculty, and administrators. The great advantage of Online Learning is that it gives students the opportunity to balance their educational priorities with work, family, and other responsibilities.
All online courses offered at Monroe College are three-credit college courses. These courses satisfy the academic standards of college and regional accreditation requirements, and are approved by the State of New York for online instruction.

All communication with the professor and class is online. Professors provide course materials from textbooks, lectures, references, and online class activities. Class discussions are facilitated through internet discussion boards or live chat sessions. A course calendar, syllabus, reading assignments, assignment deadlines, and other instructions are posted on the course web site.
Weekly course work includes chapters and topic readings, required submission of homework, class activities including discussion boards. Homework assignments and term projects are submitted to your professor the course management software.
Homework assignments and projects are graded on a timely basis and returned to you through Monroe's course management system, as well as by email.
Quizzes and mid-semester exams are made available online and are completed for submission to instructors using course management tools. These quizzes and exams are then graded and returned to you according to specified schedules.
In some instances, you may be asked to take a proctored exam. In this case, you will either come to one of our campuses or arrange for a proctored exam location close to your home. We have proctored exams to make sure we maintain the integrity of our online programs.
Your instructor requires a minimum level of online participation for particular class topics and discussions. These discussions generally take place on the weekly discussion boards. These represent your class participation and form part of your overall course grade.
You and your professor communicate one-on-one using the Course Management System. You can also communicate to other students through that same system. Your instructor will make him/herself available to you during established office hours that are posted on the course site. You can also communicate with your instructor on the phone.
